The RMFG – a Hole in One!
Since its first publication, professional golfers as well as people from all sorts of professions and sports, have benefited from applying the mental techniques found in The Right Mind for Golf. Stories about this book abound. There was the man who told Mike Kletz at Houghton Golf Course that after reading the book, he went and bought copies for every staff member in his company. Another keeps The RMFG by his bedside table and rereads a chapter every night. Then there is the rumour that Ashleigh Simon’s father won’t let her read any other golf book...
Here's what a few other people had to say:
“Golf is very [easy] if you remind yourself about the simple and uncomplicated things. This book will be a great help to someone who wants to become a great golfer...I highly recommend this kind of training of the mind, which is what it takes to win.”
David Frost
“[Rene Kurensky’s]...help and advice which she gave me
regarding my golf in the mid-60s was invaluable...a mental
insight into the game of golf. I went on to win the British Open in 1969 and the US Open in 1970. I still use her technology today.”
Tony Jacklin
“...Rene was a naturally talented human being, with the special personal qualities needed by someone in her position. I respected her approach and methods and can honestly say I have learned from them over the years. Whilst I am in no doubt Rene is greatly missed, I am sure her memory and work will live on.”
Nick Faldo
“Rene was an extraordinary woman...She helped me understand that golf is an outdoor chess game. She was right. I am mentally so much stronger...I am more positive in golf and in everyday life.”
Nico van Rensburg
“Once you reach a certain level of ball striking in golf, having The Right Mind For Golf is what will take you to the next level. Rene Kurensky will give you many ways to become mentally stronger and more prepared. This is the easiest way I’ve come across to improve your golf. It is also fun and easy to read.
Dale Hayes
“There are so many varying techniques, mechanics and physical abilities shown by top PGA players today and any one of those players can win in any given week. This proves the game is played 90% in the mind. This book prepares the right mind for golf!”
Andrew McLardy
Royal Swazi Open, Nashua SA Masters, Leopard Creek Players Champion
“When you’re missing that something which you need to get to the next level, this book will certainly help you find your way there.”
Warrick Druian
SA PGA Champion 2004
“Rene Kurensky was a vibrant life force. The fortunate readers of this book will share in her simple, yet extremely effective, teaching methods. This is true not only for golf, but life itself.”
Andy Shackleton
Professional Golfer and Businessman
“In motivation sessions we teach people to relax, have confidence in themselves and go for it. On the golf course these rules were ignored until I read The RMFG. Now I’m aiming at a single figure handicap and use these rules in all the motivation talks as well.”
John Theo
Motivation Speaker; Past President Sandton Chamber of Commerce
“My ultimate goal has been to play in the British Open and after reading The RMFG I feel I have the confidence to make my dream a reality. I have obtained a better understanding of how positivity changes the mindset in the game and my view on life.”
Albert Swartz
Senior Professional Golfer
“A lot of young up and coming players think they have the game, swing and ability to win, but you also need to have the will, determination and a positive frame of mind – I think The RMFG teaches all this. It’s a great way to learn about the mind and secrets for success in this wonderful game called Golf!”
Ashleigh Simon
SA Ladies Amateur Strokeplay & Matchplay Champion 2004; Women’s SA Open Champion 2004
“The RMFG is both appreciated and in high demand from both our teachers and students. The RMFG is one of those rare books in golf that make sense and actually work.”
Dr. Barry Lotz
Professional Golf Teachers Association of America
“Like so many golfers, I concentrated on the mechanics of my swing and acquiring the latest equipment. The RMFG has taught me how to set goals and how to achieve them. It is my match play weapon, the extra club I needed for my brain.”
Sandy Chamberlin
Bonnie Doon Golf Club, Sydney, Australia
“Rene Kurensky was a special type of person. In my many discussions with her it became clear to me that in any sphere, to be successful one must spend many hours honing one’s skills in the lead up to the goal. But be it a sporting goal, studying for an exam or deciding the next most beneficial business approach, the focus inevitably turns inward, preparing the mind to control and promote the activity to its successful conclusion. I have continued to use Rene’s book in the build up to my ongoing goals and, as a result, I have achieved SA national colours and success in Triathlon, Diathlon and Aquathon.”
Dr. B. S. Kletz
Triathlon, Diathlon and Aquathon Athlete
“The RMFG has been a great help to me on and off the course. It made me concentrate and focus on the positive aspects in a round of golf, which produces better scoring. The day after finishing the book I made a 68 in the second round of a senior pro event, ensuring me a top 10 finish in the tournament. I highly recommend The RMFG, whether you are a golfer or not.”
David Burd
Senior Professional Golfer
“As an English international football player and sports commentator, I always appreciate a book of quality which gives me a better understanding of different sports. I love playing golf and The RMFG has given me a deeper understanding of what this game is all about. It is a must for any amateur golfer aiming to improve his ability.”
Terry Paine
MBE Southampton & England
“What a great book...we are in need of such books. As a rugby coach, the book guided me to determine and see my goals much more clearly, helped me to concentrate and to focus, to believe and achieve these goals - most of all, not to lose it when things don’t work out but get back with more determination! Don’t let this one pass you by.”
Eugene (Loffie) Eloff
Coach: SA U19 / Golden Lions
“A reading of Rene Kurensky’s book shows that she does not just focus on the mechanics of the game, but emphasises the mental challenges of this sport. Breaking new ground in any field is an accomplishment and she needs to be applauded for this kind of trail blazing in golf development. She did not hold a formal degree in psychology, yet she’s the most innovative, insightful and inspiring mentor any psychologist could wish for. Her grasp of the human psyche and its application to golf is invaluable. This book is an inspiration.”
Dr. Augustine D’Ewes & Dr. Velia Lyell
Golf players and Psychologists who, in particular, consult therapeutically to golfers.
“Mark Twain described golf as a good walk spoiled. How sad for him then that he didn’t get to read Rene’s book. If he had, he would not only have enjoyed the walk, but would also have had time to smell the roses along the way. I commend it to anyone who wants to hit the fairways of life in regulation.”
Rodney Hartman
Sports columnist
“There are two positive elements which play important roles in allowing individuals to achieve success. They are the desire to win and the determination to win. Golf is a game of intention, commitment, attention, focus and responsibility. Self-confidence is belief in your own ability. It is the trust you have in your power that will help you achieve your dreams. This book will help prepare you as you work towards success in golf and life.”
Zac Mayundla
Touring Senior Pro, PGA Founding Member, Soweto Youth Coach for the South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB)

“Success is all about the ‘inner game’. This excellent book strategises a positive winning philosophy.”

A True Story
“I…met a woman named Rene Kurensky, who was something of a precursor to sport psychologists…she told me that the mind is very powerful and full of energy, and that energy can be transferred from one person to another. She told me never to project positive or negative thoughts to an opponent, because subliminally they will feed off either one. I thought of this during the playoff with Seve [Ballesteros] when on several of the early holes he had very makeable putts to win the playoff. In those situations, it’s human nature to think like the gallery did in the movie Caddyshack –‘Miss it, Noonan!’ But having talked to Kurensky, and being especially attuned because I was playing with a guy whose game was black magic anyway, I kept my mind quiet. I didn’t think a thing either way. And darned if Seve didn’t miss. And miss. And miss again. Finally, on the ninth extra hole, I won the playoff.”

Mike Kletz found his mother-in-law's notes after her death. In Rene Kurensky's files was the wish that what she had taught others to give them the edge be published to help everyone. These were handed to Alicia Woolf, who ghost wrote the book and published it for Intersoft. When Woolf started ada enup, Intersoft continued to work with her for subsequent editions.
